Tax Returns for the Self-Employed & Sole Proprietors

If you are self-employed, a contractor or a sole proprietor, your return includes a T2125 business statement alongside your T1. We sort your income and expenses, claim the vehicle, home-office and equipment costs you are entitled to, and file by the June 15 self-employed deadline — with your balance calculated in time for April 30.

    What’s included

    • Your T1 return with the T2125 business statement prepared and filed.
    • Income and expenses sorted and categorised properly — you do not need to have done this first.
    • Vehicle expenses calculated on your business-use percentage.
    • Home-office costs claimed correctly.
    • Capital cost allowance on tools, equipment and vehicles.
    • Instalment payments worked out so you are not caught by interest next year.
    • A straight answer on whether incorporating would leave you better off.

    Who this is for

    • Trades and contractors — construction, electrical, plumbing, landscaping.
    • Consultants, freelancers and anyone invoicing rather than on payroll.
    • Rideshare and delivery drivers.
    • People running a side business alongside a regular job.
    • Anyone who has been doing it themselves and is no longer sure what they can claim.

    What it costs

Every situation is different, so rather than posting a flat price list we look at your full picture first — how many

    Common questions

    Frequently Asked Questions

When is the self-employed tax deadline?

June 15 to file, but any tax you owe is still due April 30, and interests start running after that. most people only ever hear about the June date.

Can I claim my vehicle if I am self-employed?

Yes, for the business-use portion. You need a log of business versus personal kilometres — that ratio determines the share of fuel, insurance, maintenance and depreciation you can claim.

Can I claim a home office?

If it is your principal place of business, or you use it regularly to meet clients, yes. The claim is based on the share of your home used for work

At what point should I incorporate?

Usually when you are consistently earning more than you need to take out personally, because profit left in the company is taxed at the small business rate rather than your personal rate. Liability and client requirements matter too.
